The Great Exhibition of Asian Cultural Exchange
The 4th “International” Art exhibition for Children

WAS had been holding international art exhibitions for children since 2003. The exhibition in 2007 -on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the friendship treaty between Thailand and Japan- was supported by the Red Cross of Thailand. During the exhibition we introduced works by Thai and Japanese children.

Date: Aug 6th-9th, 2006 Place: Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Japan
Works: 100 prize winning works by Japanese children
53 works from Thai children, 37 woks from Taiwanese children and 78 works from students at Chinese schools in Japan From the 6th to the 9th of August 2006 two art exhibitions were held in the Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Japan.
The first one was “The Great Exhibition of Asian Cultural Exchange” and the second one was “The 4th International Art Exhibition for Children”.
Over 600 participants were invited to the ceremony.

Opening ceremony

11:00 Opening ceremony featuring a ribbon cut and introduction of the VIP guests.
The opening speech by M.R.Somlabh Kitiyakara (“WAC”World Art and Culture Exchange Board of director
Special speech by Panya Vijintanasarn (Thai National Silpakorn University  dean of Art Department) and To Manrei (Taiwan government National Party assembly member ,and Honorary chairman of Chinese merchant abroad general meeting)

An award ceremony

There were in total 653 works by children from all over Japan.
The election committee selected 50 works (6 best works, 14 excellent prize works, 30 fine art works).
All the winners received a prize medal and a souvenir.

Special event “Playing with Nature”

“A Special Calligraphy Event” by Nishikubo Suikyu
Children experienced the beauty of calligraphy, trying to read the words written by a professional calligrapher. The children participated with deep interest and wide-open eyes.

The 4 days exhibit was visited by a total of 966 people. We also received a special visit from the Mayor of Itabashi, Mr. Teruo Ishizuka. Both events were very successful drawing social attention and expressions of praise from many visitors.
